Are you shopping for a high MPG car? MPG stands for miles per gallon and is a number that is very important in today's society. We all know how expensive gas is, and many people find it difficult to keep their tanks full.Therefore, many consumers are searching for cars that offer high mileage. Luckily there are plenty of them. Car manufacturers are listening to consumer demands and creating vehicles that offer performance and fuel conservation. The gold standard is of course the hybrid.


The Toyota Prius is the car that brought attention to hybrids. This vehicle has a distinctive appearance and gets an average of 45 mpg although you may be able to get more depending on your driving habits. The Prius is favored by many celebrities including Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio just to name a couple. The reason the Prius is so popular is because it is better for the environment, conserves gas and definitely has a hybrid look to it. However you may not want such a distinctive car. There are plenty others by other manufacturers that offer high MPG also.

For example, the Toyota Corolla hybrid offers good mileage like the Prius but looks like your traditional everyday family car. You can expect around 35 mpg from this stylish vehicle which isn't quite as good as the Prius but still pretty good. Another car to consider is the Honda Civic hybrid. This car gets between 40 and 45 mpg. There are even some non-hybrid cars that are pretty good on mileage including the Saturn Vue, Nissan Altima, Honda Civic and even the MINI Cooper which is not a car you see everyday but one that is good on gas mileage.

The Internet is a fantastic resource for researching high MPG cars. You may find out about some you didn't even know existed. One thing you might want to do is go on some automotive forums and message boards. Ask around for recommendations and see what other members are driving and how much mileage they're getting. Often a recommendation from another consumer is going to be much more helpful than the description from a car manufacturer. Choosing a car with a good mileage rating can help put more money in your pocket and help save the environment, both noble goals we should all strive for.
